Service Projects to Prepare for Band Camp!
The summer is winding to a close. The temperature is on the rise. Most of our students have been sleeping in, spending most of their days in an air conditioned building, and staying up too late. It’s time to get outside, drink water and get ready for Band Camp!
Band Camps are just around the corner. It’s time to acclimate. Here are some service projects to get your students ready to rock Band Camp!
1. Mow a neighbors lawn.
Volunteer your time and energy and mow some lawns. Have a neighbor that struggles to mow their own lawn? Or a neighbor that is on vacation? On hot days like this, you’ll be sure to make them smile. Make sure you bring water with you and drink it frequently.
2. Volunteer at a nearby county fair.
Fairs are always looking for volunteers to clean and set up/tear down. Again, make sure you bring water with you and drink it frequently.
3. Babysit and take the kids to the park.
Give your parents friends a break. Take the kids out for a playdate at the park. Be sure to load the kids up with sunscreen and take your water! Stay hydrated and sun safe.
4. Help pull weeds at the local garden.
Every garden needs weeds pulled. Many churches, libraries and community parks have gardens. Make sure you check with the owners before you start pulling weeds. Wear a big hat to keep yourself sun safe. Also, DRINK WATER!
5. Open a lemonade or water stand.
Set up a stand in your neighborhood. Offer postal service workers, UPS drivers, FedEx drivers free cold water. Keep yourself hydrated while serving others!
6. Walk the neighbor dogs (or your own!)
Make sure you stay off the asphalt so you don’t burn dogs paws. Wear sunscreen and bring water for you AND the dogs. Bring a ziploc bag with you for a make-shift water bowl for Fido.
If you can’t do any of these things, at least get outside and take a walk. Increase your walking time by 5 minutes a day. Bring water with you! By the time Band Camp rolls around, you’ll be ready for fun in the sun!
