Day started with a PLC meeting with the instrumental staff. It was nice to see them all in one "place", even if that was just a computer screen. Starting "school" tomorrow; or what is to be considered school for the next few weeks. With all of the media coverage of this virus, part of me wants to think that maybe this will be over sooner than we originally thought. The logical part of me also says that this is just the beginning. Not sure who I want to listen to, hopeful me or logical me.
Sophie started her school day with some Bell Work while I was on my conference call. One of the questions on the worksheet was "I am sad when...". Here response made me sad, but also happy that I have had this time with her;
She wanted to have pajama day at school, I had to say no. But, in all honesty, I haven't worn jeans or dress pants in some time. Might be tricky to put on pants at the end of this mess...
Sophie's school work has now been assigned by her school teacher. Last week, we were doing worksheets and reading just for fun, nothing actually related to her schoolwork. Now, the work that she is completing in our homeschool, is going to be turned in and "graded". Sophie attends a private school, so the restrictions from the state are not as strict. I am not allowed to grade or teach any new content during these 4 weeks as a public school educator. Sophie's school is taking a different approach, as they are allowed to do that (and we pay tuition, and expect that the learning continues). Side note: I wonder if I will get a cut of Sophie's tuition, as I am the one doing the teaching... : )
In "science" today we made banana bread. She read the recipe, and poured everything into the bowl and mixed it all together. She even got to open the oven door. This made her very nervous, but she did alright. The banana bread was pretty good too!
After science (while the bread was baking), we did some Unicorn Yoga for PE. She did WAY better than I did. (Yes, I also wore a unicorn costume, but no pictures were taken. No one needs to see that.)
Unicorn Yoga was followed by Lunch Doodles with Mo. I have seen so many variations of this opportunity from Shakespeare with Patrick Stewart to reading children's book with Oprah. I love that people are coming together in this dark time.
By the time all of this was over the sun finally came out! We got to play outside for a good chunk out of the late afternoon. Sun is the best medicine. As is a grilled supper.
Was in a bit of a funk this morning. Had a job interview set up for tomorrow via Zoom. Was looking forward to the interview, but cancelled it this afternoon. In this time of uncertainty, I couldn't add one more unknown for my colleagues (who are like my family now) and for my students. If this quarantine goes through the end of the school year, I couldn't leave my students without a proper goodbye. I love my students and what I do, and I'm in the place I need to be right now.
Much love.
