Day 5. Sophie declared this as VIP day. VIP day is a day at her actual school that students can bring in a guest they consider "very important". The students and their VIP's go throughout the student's day doing various activities and fun things. VIP day is a very important part of the school year, and Sophie was distraught over not being able to have this day with her grandpa. SO, today was VIP day. Grandpa came over this morning for a day of fun activities with her. Sophie planned everything, from the schedule of activities to what was for lunch.
VIP day started with some Bell Work (not originally on the schedule, but we wanted to show grandpa what we were doing in "school"), moved on to math, and them some reading.
Sophie wanted to get through these things quickly so she could start her list of activities. First things on her list were a dance party and art time.
Notice that she has her Easter dress on. Hopefully we can wear it to church on Easter, but just in case, she is wearing it now.
After dance parties and art time, Sophie wanted to play some piano for Grandpa.
Sophie had a great VIP day, as did grandpa. After lunch time, Sophie's school had a "work pick up day". We were told to stay in our vehicles and teachers would bring all of our students work and classroom supplies to us. These drawings met us as we entered the parking lot to pick up Sophie's things:
One of the CLS teachers brought out Sophie's bag of materials and put it in the front seat of the car through an open window. Sophie didn't quite understand why she couldn't just go into school and pick up her stuff herself. She knows about Coronavirus, and has been asking questions often. But today was hard. To see her confused and wondering why broke my heart. Leaving the parking lot, I cried. I cried because this isn't fair for her OR my students. I cried because Sophie deserves a proper 1st grade year. I cried because I don't know when this crazy situation will change.
Started my "actual" job again today, as it was the first day back after spring break. Online learning is starting in our district on Wednesday. My schedule is now full of video conferencing meetings and creating online resources for my students. Balancing my actual work and homeschooling Sophie will be a delicate balancing act. I hope I am up for this challenge.
Be well, friends. Much love.
