Happy April Fool's Day. I did not partake. Here are my thoughts on this day;
It was a busy day, nonetheless. Full day of homeschool, instruments to deliver, bikes to be ridden. We will start with school. Sophie is still struggling with reading the directions fully. She doesn't like to take the time to read and then complete the task. She thinks "I've seen these problems or questions before, I know what the directions are asking me to do." Ugh. Trying to break her of that habit before she really starts to get into schooling where reading the directions is half the battle.
Part of her textbook reading today was "Cinderella". An extension activity in this chapter of the text, was to write a letter of invitation. What a perfect time of year to write an invitation, as Sophie turns 7 on Monday. So, we took the time to hand-write 2 letters of invitation to Sophie's "birthday party". (This will be as much social distancing as we can do, sorry folks she's 7 and deserves to have a party.). She wrote, decorated and delivered 2 birthday invitations.
After delivery of our party invitations, I needed to go to my real work and deliver instruments to some of my students that couldn't get to the school during the pick up times. I loaded instruments in the back of my car and drove around the district delivering instruments and music folders. I felt like the instrument fairy. Or Santa Claus. Or maybe the Easter Bunny. Regardless, one drop off was particularly impactful. The smile on the student's face and the heartfelt "thank you" made the 2 hours of running around worth it. Didn't realize just how big the school district actually was.
Before we left for instrument deliveries, we started our science experiment. Today we learned about capillary action. Next week we are going to plant seedlings, so we needed to first learn how water travels through the roots in the plants up to the leaves. This, rather neat, experiment uses water, food coloring and paper towels. Sophie filled 4 cups full of water. We then added food coloring to those 4 cups: red, yellow, blue, purple. In between the full cups we had empty cups. Sophie hypothesized what color the water would be in those cups once the water traveled through the paper towels into the empty cup. This experiment took all day to complete. The end result was a beautiful rainbow of colored water.
I'm starting to burn out a little. I love my time with Sophie, don't get me wrong, I just need to do something alone. I need a hobby. Something that I can do without Sophie, and without needing a bunch of "things". Don't want to spend a ton of money, but I need something to do. Any ideas? Let me know!
Much love.
